Origin & History
Anbara is a relatively rare Madinah date; each palm yields little, so it has always been a date of the elite and of gifts. Its name is said to echo 'anbar' (amber) for its preciousness, and a single fruit can fetch the price of a kilo of lesser dates.
Taste & Character
A large, elongated fruit — often over five centimetres — with dense, tender flesh and a tiny stone. Its sweetness is balanced rather than overpowering, with a deep honeyed note and thin, smooth skin. Anbara is eaten one fruit at a time, savoured, never by the handful.
Nutrition
Anbara carries a higher protein share than most dates, alongside iron and potassium, and is traditionally recommended for new mothers and convalescents to restore energy.
