Along Wadi Hanifah and in the Sudair oases north of Riyadh stretch palm groves that have supplied the capital for centuries. Sudair's Sullaj is the region's pride: an elongated golden date picked at the rutab stage and served in Najdi majlis gatherings with Saudi coffee.

Today traditional farms sit beside modern agricultural ventures, making greater Riyadh one of the Kingdom's fastest-growing date regions.
